How do you actually do it – be a woman today? Anything seems possible when you start out in life as a thirty-year-old, because the globalised world offers more options than ever. On the other hand, ideas that once seemed solidly cemented have started to falter: Nobody believes in the love-securing effect of a wedding ring anymore; a degree does not necessarily lead to permanent employment – not to mention a pension.

The models of older generations no longer offer their daughters any guidance, and the mothers look on half admiringly, half uncomprehendingly as they carve out their own path in the overabundance of great freedom.
